Community Meeting

A Respectful Hello

Greeting Objective

The learners will use respectful ways to greet each other.

  • Students sit in a circle.
  • Model how to greet someone with respect. (Use good eye contact, say person’s name, smile, and give a firm handshake.)
  • Start with the person on their right and greet respectfully.
  • Continue until all students have been greeted.

RESPECT Acrostic Poem

Engagement Objective

The learners will create an acrostic poem about respecting people.

  • Create an acrostic poem with the class using the word RESPECT on chart paper, dry erase board, etc. Guide students in coming up with words and phrases that show how they can be respectful. The poem below is one example:

Remember to listen
Everyday share with others
Say nice things
Please and thank you
Everyone deserves respect
Care about others
Take turns

Extension: Create RESPECT poems about respecting animals and the environment.

End your community meeting by informing your students about the schedule of the day.
