KINDNESS

Community Meeting

We Are Kind Kids!

Materials

  • Odakotah

Greeting Objective

The learners will greet each other in a kind way.

Directions

  • Gather children in a circle. Be sure to include Odakotah.
  • Explain to children that we are going to celebrate our growth in kindness toward people, animals, and the environment.
  • Have each child introduce themselves and tell what they will continue to do to be more kind.
  • As children share their ideas, write one word down to describe the action of their goal on slips of paper (Share, Be a
Friend, Smile, etc.). Tape the paper to their space (at their desk or table) and remind them of their word, periodically.

Use the following format:

Mark: “Hello, my name is Mark and to be kind, I’m going to share my supplies.”
All: “You are a KIND KID, Mark!”

Doing For Others Celebrates Kindness!

Engagement Objective

The learners will recognize and celebrate growth in Kindness together by doing for others.

Directions

  • Think of people in the learning environment/building who do not get thanked often (lunch room helper, secretary, mailman,
            custodian, etc.)
  • Now, think of something kind that your group can do for someone that was suggested.
  • Determine the ‘when’ and ‘how’ to celebrate that person. Make preparations.
  • Be sure to discuss how being kind felt after completing the kind act.
